COSCA is honored and delighted to announce that Lord Lyon King of Arms Dr. Joseph Morrow will be speaking at the 4th Annual Scottish Clan & Family Caucus on April 17, 2015 at Historic Rural Hill outside of Huntersville, North Carolina. Dr. Morrow will also participate in Scottish heraldry workshops and seminars during the weekend of April 18 – 19 during the Rural Hill Scottish Festival & Loch Norman Highland Games.
The Lord Lyon is one of the Great Officers of State whose origins trace back to the High Sennachie of the early Kings of Scotland. The Lord Lyon exercises the Royal Prerogative to grant Coats of Arms to virtuous and well deserving persons. He is also the judge in the Court of the Lord Lyon, determining claims to peerages and other dignities, clan chiefship and to coats of arms.
The Lord Lyon is a significant office for those active with their Scottish ancestry. Lord Lyon’s office encourages individuals to seek creation of their personal heraldic legacy and offers programs to that effect. Of wider importance, however, is the Lyon’s complex and critical role in traditional, legal and historic matters of Scottoish clanship and family association. And, of course, if your clan or family has no current chief, there is but one road that leads to a cure and that path travels straight through Lord Lyon’s offices.
