27th Chief of Clan Cameron was also Lord-Lieutenant of Inverness
Donald Angus Cameron of Lochiel, the 27th Chief of Clan Cameron, passed away on October 20, 2023. His son and heir Donald Andrew Cameron stated "It comes as a great shock but we are comforted by the fact that he died peacefully at Achnacarry in his sleep. We have been up at Clunes all week so saw him a lot and he was in good form and very happy."
Known as Lochiel, the chief was born on August 2, 1946, to Colonel Sir Donald Hamish Cameron of Lochiel, Knight of the Thistle (K.T.), and Lady Margaret Gathorne-Hardy.  He was educated at Harrow and received his Masters of Arts from Christ Church College at Oxford University. He was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders between 1966 and 1968. Trained as a chartered accountant, he was a former Director of J. Henry Schroder Wagg (later J. Henry Schroder & Co.) between 1984 and 1999. He was President of the Highland Society of London (1994-1997); Justice of the Peace Highland Region (2002-2023);  Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Inverness (1986-2002); and Lord-Lieutenant of Inverness (2002-2023.) Upon the death of his father in 2004, he assumed the chiefship of Clan Cameron, becoming the 27th Lochiel.
Lochiel is survived by his wife Lady Cecil Kerr, O.B.E.; and four children Catherine Mary Cameron; Donald Andrew Cameron; Lucy Margot Cameron; and Emily Francis Cameron. Funeral service is November 10, 2023, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Fort William followed by internment at Achnacarry.
