The Ligonier Highland Games is the main fundraising event of the Clan Donald Educational and Charitable Trust, a 501c3 organization. Donations are tax deductible and we are a non-profit organization. We have granted over $250,000 in scholarships in multiple categories during our past 60 years. The Ligonier Highland Games is entirely volunteer run with no paid staff members or officers - we do this because we love preserving and promoting our Scottish heritage. The Ligonier Highland Games has been held annually since 1959, originally as the Scottish picnic at Kennywood Park. With the support the MacDonald family, the games moved to Idlewild Park in 1973 and has become an important annual event in Ligonier.
