The St. Andrew’s Society of Schenectady is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the United States. To quote our constitution, written at our founding in 1803, the St. Andrew's Society of Schenectady, “was formed by, and now consists of Scots and their descendants, whose objects are to raise a fund, in order to assist one another in cases of necessity, and such others of their countrymen, as from their recent arrival in this country, have not gained a settlement, and consequently are not entitled to the benefits of the existing laws”
