NYC Tartan Week announced the passing of Alan L. Bain, former president and chairman of the American Scottish Foundation and founder of World-Wide Business Centres, Inc. Born in London to Scottish parents, Bain’s lifelong devotion to Scotland’s heritage was matched only by his commitment to fostering international business and civic engagement from his base in New York City. A graduate of Columbia University Law School, Bain’s career spanned law, business, and nonprofit leadership. He founded World-Wide Business Centres, a pioneering office space provider headquartered at 575 Madison Avenue. As President and later Chairman of the American Scottish Foundation, Bain played a pivotal role in strengthening ties between Scotland and the United States.
