Oliphant Clan and Family Association Raises Funds for Historical Document

1787 Society of Cincinnati member certificate for Dr. David Olyphant is signed by George Washington

In 1787, George Washington signed the certificate for Dr. David Olyphant of Newport, Rhode Island for his membership in the Society of Cincinnati. The Society of the Cincinnati is the USA's oldest patriotic organization, founded in 1783 by officers of the Continental Army who served together in the American Revolution. It is also signed by Washington's Secretary of War, Henry Knox, senior General of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The document is up for auction on April 5, 2024, and the Oliphant Clan and Family Association of North America is raising a goal of $20,000 which the association hopes is enough to secure a winning bid.
